Girl Bonding Over Oscar and Ellen

I watched the Oscars with a group of my girl friends and decided that "girls only" Oscar parties are the way to go. We drank wine, ate chocolate and cheese with abandon, commented on the hotties, shredded the poor fashion choices, and laughed a lot. Everybody was relaxed and I think they had a nice time.

At one point, a male stopped by and scolded us for being "catty." We weren't being catty, just boisterous. For every woman we thought had a hideous outfit, there was another and another and another that we thought looked absolutely gorgeous. We promptly informed him that he was outnumbered, that critiquing the celebrities was part of the fun, and that he would be wise to go with the flow. I thought we saw the same old thing from her, her, and her, and though I'd already seen far too much of her in Babel, I thought she cleaned up quite nicely.

My chocolate mousse and meringue dessert were hits. The only problem is that I far overestimated the amount of food my friends would consume and have at least three months of cheese left over along with several Tupperware containers of dessert. Things do not bode well for me in terms of getting my health kick off to a solid start this month. I'm afraid, very afraid... But, also happy. It was a fun night.

I watched the oscar's last night with some new friends, and it was fun. Not nearly as fun as your party last year though.

Maybe next year I'll have to arrange to be in new york again for the oscars. . .

I loved Nicole Kidman's red dress, and Jennifer Hudson looked awesome in the red dress she performed in. :)

I miss last year's party too! How do you think Ellen did? I personally thought she played it too safe. I also thought several of the montages were way too long, and I wish Ellen had done more dancing at the beginning of the show and made it more of an opening number a la Billy Crystal. I love her show and love her in general, so I guess my expectations were kind of high. Glad your desserts were a hit. Also, I thought Gwyneth's dress was okay (better than the ill-fitting pink one she wore when she won a few years ago), I just thought her hair was pretty bad. She kept having to mess with it to keep it straight, which isn't good. And like you, I lOVED Kate Blanchett's and Helen Mirren's ensembles. I hope I look half as good as her when I'm her age.

I missed the spectacle itself, but spent a good hour during my lunch break poring over the dresses. Last year I loved Charlize Theron's dress and felt no one had the guts to wear anything DIFFERENT this year. Nicole looked amazing though, and of course Cate Blanchett did it for me, but then she always does. And Helen Mirren is sexy as hell.

I'll take the chocolate mousse.

Gwyneth did the squishy boob dress again. You would have though she learned.

I love Kate Winslet. I think she's one of the most beautiful creatures ever. Total girl crush on her.

My fave was the absolute genuine look of shock on Forest Whittaker's face when he won. It was endearing.
