Another School Shooting

I just saw this horrific news. A gunman shot 22 people to death at Virginia Tech this morning. It's the deadliest school shooting to have happened in the United States. I am deeply saddened on behalf of the students and others killed and their families.

This is not the Revolutionary War and we do not need standing militias to defend ourselves against the English. How many people have to die before we get rid of the guns?

Lumo, If that rumor is correct (that an Asian male from another university went looking for his girlfriend at Virginiat Tech who had just broken up with him), then this is another example where women have been the targets of gun violence. Like in the Amish shooting where little girls were targeted.

It's horrible!

Of course the NRA will no doubt say if we ALL carried guns all the time tragedies like this wouldn't happen.

People are deadly no matter what weapon (if any) they carry. It's the mind that's the killer. The instrument only facilitates the speed with which one can kill.

Baraka - Their standard line.

Lass - Agreed that people are deadly regardless of the weapon. However, killers who attempted to kill with weapons with slower velocities, such as knives, would have a far harder time killing 33 people in 2 hours than this guy did with a gun.

People kill, but with guns they kill many, quickly. Why keep something so deadly so readily available in society?

Brings back terrible memories of Dunblane for us. At least we banned handguns outright back then.

Terrible and sad and frustrating....

try to let it go though Buttercup...you are soon off (if you're not gone already) on a wonderful adventure.

Have a great and safe trip. Remember that we'll want pictures! (ok, at least I will!)
